Showcasing innovation in Central Virginia
VCU’s commercialization arm needs a yearly printed report that shows the inventions and companies coming out of the university.
Every year we write the stories, manage production, centralize comments and run the editing process, working with designer Brent Nultemeier. The relationship goes back to Jeff’s days as a business reporter covering VCU inventions.
A top-quality report delivered ahead of schedule.
The need
VCU TechTransfer and Ventures is the commercialization arm of Virginia Commonwealth University. Every year it publishes a printed report on the inventions and innovation coming out of the university.
A report like that draws comments from many people, and someone has to pull them together, keep the stories accurate and get the finished piece out the door.
Our approach
Each year we take the reins. We manage production and write the stories for the report.
The relationship goes back to the mid-2000s, when Jeff Kelley was a business reporter covering inventions coming out of the region’s largest university. Staying in touch since then has kept us close to the innovation stories coming out of Virginia, and it means we arrive each year already knowing much of the ground.
We work with Outer Banks-based graphic designer Brent Nultemeier, and we serve as the client’s point of contact. We handle all of the copywriting and proofing. We also work with the university to centralize comments and streamline what can be a huge editing process.
That arrangement keeps the client’s focus on its work, while we turn its vision into a finished report.
The outcome
The result is a top-quality report delivered ahead of schedule. The 2022 annual report is available as a PDF on the university’s site.
