Build a home for your story

A great story needs a place to live. Our digital team handles website design, social platforms, membership tools and digital applications to bring your content to life.

Website design and development

We create sites that look good, work hard, and make sense to the people using them — both on the front and back end. We can build it ourselves, or partner with web development companies to complete your project.

What you get

  • Planning, structure and content migration from your old site
  • Design and development, usually on WordPress
  • Search basics built in: clean structure, fast pages, accessible markup
  • Training for your team at launch

Apps for events and members

The program and the packet, in everyone’s pocket.

Some things people need on their phone, not on a page: the conference schedule, the exhibitor floor, the board packet. We build web apps for exactly that. They open from a link, with no app store and nothing to download, carry your brand, and change as plans change.

What we’ve built

  • Event programs: agenda, speakers, exhibitors and floor maps
  • Board meeting hubs, through Boardside
  • Built for phones first, and just as good on a laptop

Have something else in mind? Tell us what your people need, and we’ll build it around them: a member tool, a training portal, something nobody has made yet. Every custom app is scoped to what it takes, with a clear estimate before any work starts.

VIRGINIA BUILDERS SUMMIT APP

Forgo the expense and time of paper and design.

What it saves

Less to print. Less to buy. Less to manage.

Printing is the cost that comes back every event. One association client spent $4,120 last year printing programs and signage for four events. A digital program is built once and used again, event after event.

Printed programs and custom apps A digital meeting program
What you pay for Printing a program for every event, or a custom app built from scratch. A program we build once, set up for you and use again.
The next event Print it all again, or pay to update the app. The same program with new dates, speakers and exhibitors. Nothing to rebuild.
A late change A printed insert, or an app update waiting on app store review. Changed once on your website, and attendees see it right away.
For attendees Download an app, or carry the booklet. Open a link. No app store, nothing to download.

The print figure is what a client paid for jobs we produced, including event signage. Every app is scoped to what you need, with a clear estimate before any work starts.

Hosting and ongoing care

Building a site is half the job. Keeping it running is the other. We host the sites we build, and the WordPress sites you already have, on a tier-one hosting platform with 99.9% uptime. Then we look after them: security, updates, backups, and a real person to call when you need a change or a fix.

What’s included

  • Tier-one hosting with 99.9% uptime, SSL, caching and a CDN
  • Security at the site and DNS level through Cloudflare, with bot protection on forms and logins
  • Automatic vulnerability scanning, with updates installed as they’re released
  • Daily backups, kept for 30 days
  • Uptime monitoring and DNS management
  • Two check-ins a year on traffic, updates and what’s next, plus a meeting whenever you need one
  • Email and phone support from the person who runs your site, during business hours

Moving an existing site? We start with an audit, then work with your current host so everything comes over: content, plugins and their licenses. We look after sites we didn’t build as gladly as the ones we did.

Questions

What people ask before we start.

How much does it cost?

We price each project on its own, based on what you need and the timeline. Tell us what you’re working on and we’ll send a clear, flat estimate before any work starts.

How much does hosting cost?

Hosting starts at $99 a month, and every plan is priced on its own, around the group we work with and what its site needs: the plugins, the features and the level of care.

How long does a website take?

It depends on the size of the site, and we’ll put a schedule in the estimate before we start.

Can we update the site ourselves?

Yes. We build on WordPress with an editor-friendly admin and show your team how to use it.

Do you host sites you didn’t build?

Yes. We’ll first review your existing site to understand how it’s built, what it depends on and what it will take to move it. If it’s a good fit for our hosting, we’ll plan the migration with you, including the site’s content, functionality and any necessary software licenses.

Who pays for plugin licenses?

Some websites rely on paid plugins and other licensed tools. We’ll identify those costs upfront and explain which licenses are included in our hosting service and which require a separate purchase or renewal.

Do you host email?

We don’t provide email hosting, but we can help you get set up with Google Workspace or Microsoft 365. Your email account and subscription remain with the provider, who handles the service itself.

Do you work with Squarespace?

Yes, depending on the project. We can help build and manage Squarespace websites, but Squarespace hosts its own platform. If you want to move to our hosting, we’ll discuss whether rebuilding the site in WordPress makes sense.

Who owns the website?

Your website, content and domain should remain yours. If you decide to move on, we’ll work with you to provide the site files and the information needed for a transition, subject to any third-party licensing terms. Proprietary tools, including Boardside, remain subject to their own license agreements.
